Inquiry Process
This is what I give my students to introduce the inquiry process. We then spend time going over parts of it - variables, drawing graphs, inferences etc. The second page is the checklist they are to use before they hand in a lab writeup (or partial writeup)

Create an Organism
Students need to create an organism to fit into a particular environment. They have a chance to be very creative as they describe the organism's niche.
Element Facebook Project
I used this with my K&E students to research an element. It could be used with any grade and modified. I found the template online and then made adjustments to it. My students worked on this through google docs. My email address is on the assignment so feel free to ask questions (and you will need to remove it if you use the template)
Simple hands on science activities

50 dollar planetarium
Students create their own star patterns and legends that are then showcased in a homemade planetarium. Works for grade 6 or 9 science or even social if you study legends and stories.
