The Amazing Alphabet Adventure LESSON
This activity is designed for Grade 1 students to demonstrate their phonetic awareness and for Grade 6 students to participate in a guided leadership activity. Teachers using this activity must ensure that the Grade 6 students running each letter station are clear about their role in helping all of the Grade 1 students achieve success. They are NOT grading students. They are checking the student Letter Sound Sheet for completion.

Lightning Thief Newspaper Article Assignment
Writing assessment done in conjunction with read aloud: Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Students should have listened through to ch. 9 in the novel. This writing assignment is designed to look similar to the grade six newspaper writing assignment on the Alberta PAT. Strands: Writing, Listening, and Speaking GO 2: connecting to a text GO 5: collaborating with others (Article Notes) Midpoint assessment helps draw student's attention to details in the exposition of the story.
